Hi all!
I am new here, have been reading post for awhile. I appreciate all the info I have learned here.
1998 V70 Base - non turbo - 134,796 miles
The car is vibrating at idle and initial acceleration.
The car had 115,000 when I bought it a year ago. I had the rear main seal replaced and the transmission serviced at that time. The car gets good gas mileage 24-25 average.
Got 29.6 highway running air at 70-75 mph.
Recently,I have replaced the upper torque rod bushings on the firewall and used the urethane one from FCPGrton that was not suppose to cause vibration.
I also replace the lower engine mount on the passenger side.
I have added some fuel system cleaner that seems to be improving the smoothness of the engine.
My question is this - Not being familiar with the 5 cylinder engine I am not sure how the engine should sound or run. It does not seem to be missing or anything but does not seem to run very smooth. It is getting better now with the fuel cleaner.
Is this vibration normal for these cars or should I look for a reason?

vibration at idle seems normal.
The other will chime in, but I think its a volvo trait.

If you used the poly bushing, this vibration is normal. Some (like me) live with it because they like the pick-up feeling off the line. Others can't bear it and have gone back to the OEM rubber bushing.

I had the timing belt, water pump, tensioner, and idle pulley all replaced at the local dealer - 140,000 mile change. As per usual they had another list of things that they said needed to be done. One of these was to de-carbon the engine. At first I was not sure what they were talking about, but after some thought I realized they wanted to charge me a fortune to Seafoam my engine. I got two cans of Seafoam, one for the intake vacuum, one for the gas tank and followed the instructions on their website. WOW, what a difference it made. My vibration is gone, the idle is smooth, and has more power. I feel like I have a new car.

Great! Are you saying you used a whole can for both locations? Not really recommended, but if it worked for you, great news!
On a related note, these dealers are desperate- just not enough business for them that they're coming up with all kinds of "specials" to take your hard earned money to help with their deficits. "Decarbonizing the engine?" That's a new one on me. Good foresight and seeing through their scam.

You should NOT have used TWO cans!!!
As long as your engine is fine now, you got very lucky.
ONE CAN is quite sufficient

While on the subject. Is the use of Seafoam worth the effort or is it just another scam? I used it in my diesel pickup once or twice and did not notice anything.

Did you wait 15~20 minutes with the engine off after sucking it into the intake? Either this isn't done or things are really clean already inside the pistons when people say they saw no improvements. I've tried it and so have many others with very noticeable results.

Actually I only used it a fuel additive at a rate of 1 oz per gallon of fuel and as a pre-cleaner prior to oil change. Never felt comfortable sucking it into the vacuum lines.
Correct me if I am wrong but it appears as though it is being poured into the brake booster vacuum line. Kinda scares me a little to do that. Don't know why but it does.
Want to give it a try but actually do not know anyone who has used it. Guess thats why I'm asking.
