Love my 2004 XC-70 but have to put my foot into it to feel the G's.

You barely need to get close to the gas pedal to set her 2006 flying.

Actually spun the rear tires on her's the other day when I stepped on it at a stop light.

Both bought new and serviced by Volvo. Talked to all Denver dealers and they insist same engine and setup.

Why the difference? Software? Can I pep mine up?

They are pretty much exactly the same car, save for some cosmetics. Other than how they 'feel', you should do a couple of 0-60 runs with a good stopwatch and assure yourself that there really is (or isn't) a performance difference.

Is the 2004 properly maintained -- basic state of tune 'perfect'? Same tires and tire pressure on both cars? Etc., etc...

I had a car once that seemed like a dog until I unwedged the floormat from under the gas pedal (!)

edit: yep, for a turbo there is a tuning upgrade option...see my next post, below...

Great ideas.

There is definitely a difference in percevied acceleration when starting form a dead stop or crusing along and stepping on the gas.

Her's doesn't appear to have a "Turbo Lag".

Ah, you know I forgot this car is a turbo. I have to retract my comments about the chip upgrade/snakeoil :P

IPD sells an ECU upgrade that is pretuned as a drop-in and will give you a significant performance improvement. It's highly recommended that you go with a larger gauge exhaust system if you do this.

Anyway, check the basics first to sort out why one car is acting differently than the other. You should never drop in a new tune (ECU) on a car that isn't at a 'perfect' stage-zero state of maintenance.

You ALL forget the 06s have instant traction, (Haldex).
The power goes to the rear wheels instantly and they DO feel quicker off the line 0 to 20!
