Hello all,
My 2001 V70 (88k) doesn't want to let me open the right rear door anymore, at least not from the outside. I can open the door from the inside. It's not the childlock, as it is in the unlocked position, and I can open the door from the inside. The door does unlock with all of the others, it just doesn't open from outside. Also the handle doesn't feel as though there is any resistance or engagement of anything when attempting to lift the handle and open the door.
Is this something easily dealt with? Perhaps the attachment from the handle to the release mechanism has come off? If so, can you post instructions or link to how to remove door panels and investigate?
Thanks in advance,
Matthew

Possibly easy, but maybe not...you'll have to take the inside panel off (easy...round "clips" around the perimeter of the door have small round plugs in the middle- just push them in and they pop out unlatching the clips) and then you'll figure out how the handle comes off...once the handle is off you'll see how it fits into the door latch...I'd say it's either slipped out of it or has somehow broken off so it no longer pulls the latch.

It's possible, put unusual. On P2's, if the handle's off the lock module, it's 90% that the module itself is broken (same thing for the 'high security modules' on 98-00 S/V70s). If the handle's still connected to the module, then the module is definitely toast.MadeInJapan wrote:Possibly easy, but maybe not...you'll have to take the inside panel off (easy...round "clips" around the perimeter of the door have small round plugs in the middle- just push them in and they pop out unlatching the clips) and then you'll figure out how the handle comes off...once the handle is off you'll see how it fits into the door latch...I'd say it's either slipped out of it or has somehow broken off so it no longer pulls the latch.

Thank you for the advice... Just wanted to write back and let you all know that I popped the door panel off easy enough - there was a hex screw in the arm rest / handle that also needs to come out. Once the panel was off and I got behind the water barrier, I could see how the handle works. The linkage between the handle and the module had come apart. The handle drops a threaded arm down to the module which simply clips into place. Kinda easy to see how it came out and it wouldn't surprise me if it came out again. I popped it back in place and it's worked just fine ever since. Thanks for saving me a trip to the mechanic for an easy repair!
