Can't get the horn pad off...

2001 s40
For the life of me, I cannot remove the two bolts holding the horn pad on...They are in back of the steering wheel. The manual says T30...I have tried everything...smaller, square drive, etc. By now, I have probably done damage to the insert.
Problem is, you really can't see the bolt head through the back of the steerer.
Anyone? Please?

I believe T30 is correct...they have to be centered exactly...they will be tight.

I spent 30 minutes playing with just one of these things...I am afraid that I may have damaged the bolt head. What would I do if that is so? Do I dare to drill out the bolt head ?

You could, and then just replace them, but even drilled out, I'm not sure how easily you're going to get the bolts out.
Anyone have another idea here?

I remember reading that these screws are in at an angle of 45 degrees and not just straight ahead.
