s-80 t-6 1999 "coolant burping"

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

If you changed your coolant recently, it could be just burping out the air... or it could have a leak...otherwise, you could be very hot. Have you checked to see if your coolant is still any good? The little plastic thing with the little colored balls in it they sell at auto parts stores works very well (and very cheap).

You probably have a slightly blown head gasket.
I have had the same problem on my son's 850 turbo and now on my '99 S80 2.8L turbo.
What is happening is air is being forced into the cooling system when the turbo kiks in.
My advice is that unless you are one hell-uv-a mehcanic and have all the needed special volvo tools, do not try to replace the gasket yourself.
It was no problem on the 850 but the S80 is a real BITCH!
The only real difference (besides the extra cylinder) is the VVT (variable valve timing) unit.
Be sure to have the radiator fan checked. I found out after mine started burping that the fan was bad. And I believe that is what caused the gasket to blow.
Good luck.
