2002 s60 2.4T - PCV system cleaning?

Post by Volvo s60 24t »

Hi, Just wondering if the PCV system on an 02 S60 2.4T is the same or similar to the S70/850 setup shown here: http://lakesidedp.com/uploadpics/pcv/ ? Or does it even have one? I'm not too farmiliar with these cars but want to keep mine in tip top shape... I couldnt find a part on FCP either...

Yes, it has one but less parts...there is an oil separator under the intake and a series of hoses (more bundled, so less hoses = easier!) and of course the PTC valve on the end of the accordion intake hose- that's the main thing to clean on these cars- many dealers check it at 60K and go ahead and clean it as part of the 90K mile service. It's not difficult to do and will prolong the life of your car, not to mention your rear main seal.

Cool thanks. I'll see if the dealer has record of this service when I ask them for the records and if not I'll either tackle it myself or have it done by them... I may be too much of a whimp to dig into this kind of job myself.

I believe there was a posting somewhere around these boards (or maybe another) explaining how to do the PCV cleaning on an S60, but I think it was for an N/A car, not a turbo... Is it much different?

(I really would like to do a PCV clean on my car once the spring/summer weather comes around again. In the mean time, I will collect as much information as I can! :D)

BTW, any idea what "PTC" stands for?

"Positive Temperature Coefficient"
It's heated...keeps crud from building up and from the exhaust gases condensing at that opening of the nipples...but it still does after time.

Eeuroparts sells the ventilation system parts for your car but doesn't give any explanation and there isn't a diagram like there is for the first gen. 70's or 850's. I would buy all of the pieces they sell and some extra vacuum lines and I think you'll be able to figure out what needs to be done when you get into the PCV replacement. As far as the PTC valve is concerned, you can't just replace this piece, it comes as part of the accordion in-take hose from the air box- hope this helps.
