Volvo XC-70 2001 Power seat broken?

Post by jamesstar9 »

When I first start the car the drivers side power seat switch works when I move it forward, up and down, but when I try to move the seat back I hear a clicking then all the switch stops working. Sometimes the switch will work at all for all positions. Does anyone know what the problem would be and a possible fix. Thank you for anyones input.

Should i replace the seat motor? Not good at electronics but is this something I can do myself or should the dealer fix it?

I have a 2004 XC 70 with automatic seat problems also. The seat will move forward and back. The up and down mechanism is broken. The back of the seat will go down but not the front. This puts the seat at a 45 degree reclined angle and makes it difficult to reach the pedals. If I raise the back of the seat to match the front, I am force to drive with my head 3 inches from the roof and I am only 5' 2". Like jamesstar the motor makes a grinding & clicking sound. The dealer I took it to said the repair would cost anywhere between $300 to $600. Does anyone know if it is possible to disable the motor so the seat could be moved manually? I would appreciate anyone's advice to get me into a bearable driving position.
