Air Intake

Post by Timmah108 »

Hi All,

I have few questions for you all. I am pondering picking up a third party air filter. The one I am looking into is cone shaped so I would most like be removing the air filter box. Are there any negatives to that? I also noticed besides the air in and out hoses (not sure how else to describe it) there are a few other hoses, 2 small hoses and one metal hose (I looked a bit and I think it is called a heat tube.) what do these other hoses do?

Thanks for the help,
Tim

You get a lot of heat from an open cone like that unless you block it off from the rest of the engine bay (I believe that IPD sells such a kit). I would personally consider a drop-in K&N filter and keep the air box.

Thanks for the advice I didn't even consider the amount of heat but I am sure I will be able to put something together to help with the heat. My primary concerns are the other tubes connected to the air filter box. Any information on what their functions are would be greatly appreciated, especially the heat tube.

Tim, I'm not sure exactly what the function is of those tubes on your car...if they are before the MAF sensor, just route them in with RTV before the MAF...if they are after the MAF, they should already be routed. Some of them are recirculated exhaust while others....well, I'm not sure.
