2002 Volvo S80 T6 - Replacing the passanger side headlight

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2002 Volvo S80 T6 - Replacing the passanger side headlight

Post by markths »

I came out to my vehicle last week to discover that the passenger headlight had been hit and was cracked.

I ordered a replacement lens for the headlight.

I have read reports that to replace the headlight, the bumper cover needs to be removed. Does this also need to occur to replace only the lens?

I'd like to avoid a costly repair in the shop, so ideally I'd like to handle this myself. Is it too complicated and involved to do at home? My comfort level extends as far as disassembling and reassembling- I would like to avoid drilling out rivets if possible.

Has anyone gone through this process?

Welcome to MVS.
Not complicated but I think you're right- the bumper has to come off to replace that lens (from what I remember).

While not complicated, it is a major PITA to get the bumper cover off, in my opinion. I have had to replace my driver's side headlamp 3 times due to stone damage...and it got broke yet again a few months ago for the same reason! Grrrrrrr....
A local bodyshop charges me about $400 to do this.

www.ipdusa.com sells a laminate made by 3M to cover your lights- will keep breaking the lens to a minimum. It might be worth your while to invest in this.
