I've done some searching and found a few topics that dicuss moisture on the dipstick and such due to bad o-rings. However, along with this moisture I have been having steam and oil spray out from under the oil filler cap when it's realatively cold and I drive the car until it is warm (IE to work or class). Any ideas? I was thinking oil cap gasket, dipstick gasket, and possibly PCV? Thanks.

Probably PCV but I change my oil cap gasket at least once a year. They get hard and brittle and begin to let oil past them. It wouldn't be so bad but they leave a mess on top of the engine, under the spark pug cover and if things get bad start effecting the spark plugs and the way the engine runs (misfires).

I've been told probably time to do the PCV... do I have to order the entire kit from FCP, or can it just be cleaned? Or would you suggest just trying to oil filler gasket first? The only problem I've been having is steam and oil spraying from under the cap while driving... if I stop and park and check it, just steam comes out/pressure built up under the cap.

By the way it's a 1998 V70 N/A

You need to order the entire kit from fcpgroton...no way around it. Your car, being as old as it is, if you try to clean things, the small hoses will just break and/or fall apart. If you're going to do this yourself, make sure to read up on what it's all about- it will take you 4-5 hours if you've never done it before- make sure to clean the PTC nipple really good (it's on the end of your accordion intake hose that one of the PCV hoses attaches to, AND get some gaskets for your oil fill cap while you're at it.

I just wanted to verify this is the kit I'd need from FCP Groton.http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exec/p ... gory_id/63
Also will there be any additional parts I'll need? I've done some of the reading on PCV replacement and I'm pretty handy with tools so I'm relatively confident I can do this.

That's the kit you want...make sure you get an intake manifold gasket as well. This is going to be at least a half a day job if you've never done this yourself.

The kit comes with oetiker clamps which take a special crimp tool to clamp them down. I have one of the tools but there are places where you can't position the tool to crimp them. Buy some additional worm type hose clamps. The kit also doesn't include the hose clamps to hook up your evap lines and the other lines that go to the intake manifold that aren't part of the PCV system. Some of them can be reused and others really can't so a real variety of hose clamps from 3/8" to 1 1/4" will make things go smoother.

Along with the oetiker clamp crimp tool I also bought the oetiker clamp cutter tool. As I recall they cost about $10.00 each at Advance Auto Parts

If you have EGR get an EGR gasket and I always take this opportunity to clean up the EGR valve and the hole in the manifold. I also take the time to clean up the throttle body so order a throttle body gasket as well.

I don't remove the fuel rail when I do a PCV job but if you plan on doing so get new injector O rings and injector caps.

When my son and I were servicing the PCV on his car I made a comment about how easy it would be to replace his starter with the intake manifold off - a week later it died.

One last nugget, the lower intake manifold bolts don't need to come all the way out to remove the intake manifold off, the mounting holes are slotted so just loosen them about halfway.

How do you do it without removing the fuel rail? I've seen possibly cutting the line coming to the fuel rail? I assume you relieve pressure and cut the line?

By the way, my V70 is n/a, is the procedure still basically the same as the one laid out in this?

I guess I should have been a little more specific. The fuel rail does come off with the manifold but I don't remove it from the manifold. I simply remove the fuel intake line and the fuel return line and then take the manifold and the fuel rail and injectors off as one piece. The fuel intake line with the flair nut is easy, the fuel return line is very short and it takes some cajoling to get the rubber line off. On the last one that I performed the PCV serviced on I took the return line off as I was removing the manifold since it gave me more room to flex the hose and pull it off of the barb.

Sorry to keep peppering you with questions, I just want to make sure I understand the process before I get ripping into it. Do the N/A have the same PTC system as a turbo, and need to be cleaned? And is the rest of the PCV replacement basically the same as the write-up even though that was over a turbo model?
