Transmission Ecu question

Post by meteg »

Hello dear friends,

I need some advice regarding my transmission.my car's trans(95 850 N/A) was replaced last year with a new trans. but the trans ecu was not replaced. my concern is especially when the the trans lockup disengages I feel that the disengagement and sometimes shifting is harsh a little. the trans is new, fluid is new, fluid level is ok.. did I made a mistake by not replacing the trans ecu with a new one?

or in other words is my trans ecu failing and if it is would this cause damage to the new trans? what would be your advice?

because my car's engine is 2.0 liters the ecus sold in e-bay will not suit my car. because their size 2.4 liters is different than my car.

all comments are welcome..

thanks

In all of my years involved with Volvo's, I have never heard of a transmission computer failing. Your transmission is the one with the problem. Flush it...check the solenoids in it... read your trouble codes for transmission errors.

dear made in japan,

the trans was replaced with a completely new one last year.and the fluid is also volvo fluid..level is fine the control unit and solenoids came with the new trans too. I dont see a reason for the trans to fail actually.. I wonder if changing the ecu would help.. or do you think that the control module box contacts are oxidized? should I remove all the ecus and check the contact points in the box? is this a situation that you experienced before?

thanks

You could certainly check the electrical connections, but to be honest, I've never heard this type of failure, but I have heard of many failures on badly rebuilt or replaced transmissions- I hope I'm wrong.

Dear Mij,

I have removed the ecu and when re-installing it I pushed it in a little harder.. and after I started and drove the car I noticed now the trans is shifting like a silk..

what would be your comments?

I had some transmission problems and decide to check the transmission control computer.

I worked in electronics manufacturing just out of college, including inspecting avionics, so I think my opinion is informed.

I thought the assembly quality on the transmission computer was excellent, and it's conformal coated to resist environmental damage as well.

I can understand why MadeInJapan has never seen a transmission computer fail.
