The mounts in question:
I ordered a new upper engine mount and installed it with no problem, only to find that the circumference was out of spec and the entire bracket could move from side to side.(this is why the installation was easy, it just slipped in)
I was not satisfied and the supplier gave me a new mount.
See pics for the difference in specs
Out of spec mount:
New mount:
I noted that the mount by the fire wall is also looking tired and needs replacement. Is the replacement procedure similar too the larger upper mount ?
Pic of firewall mount:
I have reviewed the posts about upper engine mount replacement and have come to the conclusion there must be another way, or am I out to lunch here .Can anyone offer some pearls of wisdom once again.

Unfortunately, I don't know of anyone replacing just the rubber piece inside of the firewall mount- and I've only seen them sold as a whole piece. However, I have seen folks take those mounts off the firewall and fill them with silicone (like you would caulk your bathroom with) and let it harden up. You might consider that or buy the entire piece from a place such as www.fcpgroton.com

That firewall mount is about $26 @ dealer, (just ordered one this morning).
Funny that you have a small bushing slipped right in. The one I got (Febi) is too big, I tried, tried but after 5 hrs still wont go in, I give up.

I read that you can "press" the bushing into the mount using two large washers, a bolt, and a nut.

Yes, that's right...there is a write-up on how to do this in the repair database. Conversely, someone used 2 small barbell weights, washers and 2 wrenches to do this job recently.

Thanks a lot to everyone, I will get a new firewall mount next week and try the dumbell/weight method for the insertion of the upper mount.
More next week!.....

I did follow the instruction of that write-up but no go. I think the bushing I got is out of spec (the diameter of the bushing is 2.5mm bigger than the hole).
Thanks guys!

Today I replaced the firewall mount as well as the upper engine mount. The upper engine mount that I had replaced originally was the incorrect diameter and easily moved sideways within the bracket. I was not happy and got another one from my supplier.
Below is a post that deals very clearly with the engine mount
https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/engine_mount2.php
I have included some of my thoughts that may help someone who has to tackle this job in the future.
The firewall mount is really no big deal. It has been covered very nicely here in the forum, see the Pdf in the 3rd post on this page below.
https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =1&t=18453
After completing the above task I proceeded to insert the upper engine mount.
I used a light covering of vaseline on the inside of the mount bracket before I started. Lets just say that I really do believe that it helped
My first attempt to get it started was using this vice, it was a waste of time!

I had purchased a 7/16 threaded rod with 2 washers, I used another two washers that I had already, two nuts, as well as two 1 inch pipe flanges. I cut the threaded rod to a workable size and then proceeded to work in the mount.
The nuts were tightened from both sides. Every so often I would have to "centre" the entire mount. Once the mount was in a little way it did not take too long to complete.
I stopped when the mount was flush with the bracket on the passenger side of the car.

I did not use new bolts or nuts on the mounts, I think that the recommendation is to so.
As a foot note, you can see just how much pressure is applied to get the mount seated correctly.

Buy the very thickest washers that you can or make up two with a nice thick(1/2 inch would be good) chunk of flat bar. A hole will need to be drilled through the center to enable the rod to pass through.
So in summation it can be done!

It will go although it is extremely tight- I replaced mine a couple of weeks ago on my S70. Once you get it started WD40 seems to be a good lubricant. Here is a picture of how I used an old oil filter wrench and a piece of wood (with a 1/2 inch hole cut in the middle) to push mine in:
You can see where the wood seems crooked and the metal plate I was using was warping but still the torque mount went in without a hitch!
