2004 C70 Brake Problems

Post by coolblu66 »

I own a 2004 C70 with 32000 mi. Three months ago I purchased this preowned vehicle, from a high end branded Japanese dealership, 240 miles away, minus a warranty. Along with a clear CarFax, I engaged a local independant service center, which specializes in Volvos for an inspection, which found no outstanding issues. Six weeks ago, I had to have a failed ingition replaced. The order time for the part during the holiday week made the down time 14 days. Upon delivery, the brakes would go almost down to the floor, but with pumping them, they would come up to the original height. The mechanic bled the line, and felt that this should resolve the problem. Two weeks later, the peddle began to get lower. After review, the mechanic recommended that I replace the master cylinder. Two weeks after repacing the master cyl, the peddle began to soften to touch, and would improve with pumping. I have returned the vehicle to the meachanic to resolve this problem.
Please give me your thoughts on this disconcerting brake problem.

I think there's still a brake servo (vacuum system) in your car but I may be wrong- it could have all gone to computer control. Anyway, if you do have a servo system for your brakes, I suspect that there is a leak in one of the lines (as you've already replaced the master cylinder). Have your mechanic check this out when you take it in.
