We don't have Radioshack in Canada, and the pot that I am using has nearly identical specs to the one they used. I may not be an electronics geek, but aren't I right in assuming that there are many parts that would do what was done at Volvo Speed in the same manner? I linked to the Pot datasheets on a previous post. I also have tried multiple pots with the same results. Is my multimeter on crack??? Thinking that this should have been a really easy job, I soldered the wires to the middle and bottom pins, are these pots really sensitive to soldering heat(I only soldered my first sample, my second one I just held the wires on to see if I damaged the first one, no change)?

- Jesse

Jesse,
I'm no electrical genius either...you may be right- I would try a different mutimeter to see if the readings change.

Oh Oh Oh!!! Mister Carter! Oh Oh! (dated cultural reference, I know).

The answer has to do with ohm's law. The resistor only causes a voltage drop when a current is passing though it. Most DMM's present a 'load' of almost nothing. If you had an old sweep dial simpson 260, you would see the voltage drop. Most modern DMM's will not produce a voltage drop in a situation like this one.

Just set your meter to read resistance, and set the pot to 1.8k

The original author used the voltage drop to calculate the voltage that this works at... thankfully the number he came up with seems to work so the rest of us can avoid the higher math (although he probably did too).

WRT the idea of the SAS delete, that was the route I was considering. The pump does zero to improve the proformance of the car, and the emissions created are probably less then a bovine tarf... so I would loose zero sleep over it.

If you have the gestapo in your area checking your stuff, you would just leave all the hardware in place. Unless the inspector has read this thread you should be fine.

Very insightful Mr. Faith. I will give your method a try. I also was in contact with the eBay seller of my pots last night and he took one look at my diagram and posted a new one for me to try, does this new diagram look acceptable?

Thanks,

- Jesse

It goes a little farther than that.
Search Ohm's law and note that
voltage is also part of the equation.

Isn't your source voltage 12-14?
1.5v is an important variable.

The voltage is supplied from the O2 sensor thus it is not 12-14v as supplied from a alternator/battery. the Volvo Speed post says to set the Pot this way so I am assuming that the feed from the O2 sensor is very near 1.5v. I have gotten the Pot to work using the second diagram method, a steady 0.15v which is exactly in the middle of specs(0.1-0.2v when air pump running) This should give me a little tolerance with auctual incoming voltage from the O2 sensor.
