96 - 965 leak around injector

Post by NC_Volvo_owner »

I have a 96 -965 with 185,000. The fuel rail was leaking and I had it replaced. An injector immediately started leaking and the mechanic had to replace a seal to correct - not sure which one. I had to replace the fuel line about two months later and did it myself. That meant having to remove the rail and re-install. Now I have a leak on one of the injectors. I assume it is not a seal/ring on the rail - don't see how to replace them - is there another seal in the intake manifold? If not, what do I need to look for? Thanks for any and all comments.

Each injector has two seals, one at each end.

To remove the injector from the fuel rail simply remove the screws holdin the mounting rail to the fuel rail then remove the injector.

Before replacing the fuel rail with the injectors attached lubricate the lower seal with petroleum jelly.

Thanks to Bill for the response. Can the gaskets/rings on the end of the injectors going into the engine be replaced?

They can.

The kit sold by IPD, and no doubt other parts distributors, has one seal for each end of the injector. Remember to lubricate the lower one with petroleum jelly otherwise you will get a leak - possibly that step was forgotten when your mechanic did the original job.

Thanks to all. The leak was not around the injectors but the fuel line. Finally ended up replacing the fuel line and the regulator line - about $220 for the pair. Solved the problem.
