98 S70 GLT Smokes when

Post by bdnolan2 »

When Decelerating after passing some one the car blows blue smoke and a good bit, does not smoke any other time. was suggested to try replacing valve seals as this is cheaper and easier. any other ideas

Welcome to MVS.
This is very strange...if the seals are bad, you would get the blue smoke on acceleration too. I'm thinking some kind of vacuum leak that is messing up your air to gas ration causing you to burn rich.

How big is oil consumption? Is it much?
For example:
How much oil you need to add to your engine after 600miles?

Rings or seals. But I've never seen that kind of oil from a vavle seal. Valve seals will load up the cylinders at idle but not usually blow by like that.

2 weeks 800 mi. 1/2 to 3/4's of a quart, I thought about a vac. leak also also when sitting and rev the engine it does not blow smoke either. Just checked the oil as I wrote this.

I don't own a turbo myself so MIJ may know more about this but it sounds like maybe the turbo? Those things are oil cooled and maybe it's passing oil into the wastegate somewhow? (If that's ridiculous, just ignore it)

Could be the PCV...somehow, boost gets the blow-by oil into the system...but because of a clog, the vacuum doesn't work the other way- thus pooled oil when there is suppose to be a vacuum burns off...I would check that if it hasn't already been checked.

If it's not PCV,then could be o-rings or valve seals. But with your oil consumption it's not a big deal YET.
Start with checking your PCV and TURBO(if it's bad it,could be reason of burning oil).
