Power Seat Not Working, Help Please

Post by mbb »

Power seat not working. 1998 Volvo V90, driver's seat not working, does nothing, no motor noise, nothing no functions. Passenger seat works fine. Fuses at left end of dash seem OK. I'm stumped. Help.

Thanks,
MBB

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

The 'fuse' for the seats is an automatic circuit breaker which will reset itself after about 20 seconds. However, as the passenger seat is OK it can be ruled out.

Have you checked for 12 volts at the control module under the seat? The wire should be red/black. Also check the earth (ground) is making a good contact. It is the black wire at the control module and is attached to the car below the driver's seat.

Do those checks and let us know the results.

Thanks, The module, Volvo 917 4906-- 05 0250 50-- is getting 11.7 volts, red/black wire and the ground is good. The module does not have a burnt smell and all connectors were firmly in place. Is there any easy check for the module? With nothing on the drivers seat working the module seems to be the first suspect. Again thanks Bill.

The only easy check is by using the Volvo Scan Tool to see if any fault codes have been stored.

If any fault codes are shown then the seat has to come out of the car to test the components.

The only checks that can be done easily by the owner are the two you have already done.

Thank you Bill,
The module was bad, replaced it with a used one and all functions work.
