question about pcv

Post by misha »

I'm planing to replace pcv system in '97 850 2.5 20v non-turbo.Do i need engine serial number or chasis(vin)number to determine what pcv i need?
At www.ipdusa.com are few pcv systems:
1.up to engine number 330413,pcv code is 9146756(can has 2 pipes on up)
2.engine no.330413 and after, pcv code is 1271988(can has 2 pipes on up too).
3.pcv can code is 1271652(can has single pipe on up)and i don't know for what engine number it is for.
So,what difference is between pcv can 9146756 and 1271988?Looks completely the same with 2 pipes on up.
Engine number on my car is B5254S-890337.So,according to pcv codes above,i need 1271988,but i'm confused because 9146756 has 2 pipes on up too!!! :!:
According to this, how can i know for sure what pcv is right for my car.
I live in Serbia so it could be a big problem if i order wrong pcv because it needs about 2 weeks for shipment to arrive.
P.S.What is the difference between pcv for turbo and non-turbo models, both have 2 pipes on up :?:
I'm 100% sure that pcv on may car has 2 pipes on up.
Just like this one:

Not sure what all of the differences are but I think it is how the oil trap joins at the engine. Otherwise most parts seem the same...However, the turbo model has different lines, especially the one that connects to the PTC nipple- which the non-turbo's don't have.

The big difference is in how the PCV pipe snaps back into the intake pipe with the bayonet clamp. It is more of an angle thing than the pipes themselves. My son's car had an engine change somewhere along the line and the PCV kit that was correct for his year was not correct for his engine.

Thanks for fast reply,guys! :)
I will replace just pcv box and intake manifold gasket, not hoses. Why can't i just clean it up?Is there any valve, filter?I noticed that lots of people asking this but i couldn't found any answers. All of them was adviced to replace it!
Anyway, engine in my car is original(never replaced),so i guess that i need to give just engine serial number(b5254s-890337),production year and that would be it.
P.S.It looks just like this one and this is a turbo engine:

Wow, that is an interesting picture. I have never seen one where the line from the oil trap goes to the right of the oil filler cap. On all of mine (N/A or Turbo) it has gone more or less straight up and landed on the left side of the oil filler cap as you are looking at it from under the hood.

Answer on the filter question- plain and simple- it would get clogged. On the NA's for the most part, there was a filter of sorts called the flame trap which is a little round plastic disc with little hose in it. I took mine out tonight (it was completely clogged) and cleaned the flame trap housing and IAC but still the positive pressure in my engine is not alleviated...my dipstick tube smokes like chimney. I suppose I will have to dig into the oil trap under the intake manifold as well as the EGR which I suspect is clogged too (although before I cleared trouble codes, I had an A6 Code 1-5-4 which is EGR flow too high in system). Oh, and the reason everyone says to replace all of the PCV hoses is because they get hard and brittle with age and heat. If yours are pliable, try cleaning them- no need in changing them if they're fine. While you're at it, make sure and clean your PTC nipple out thoroughly. Without doing that, it will be as if you didn't do any of this work.

Oops, thought you said you DID have a turbo model.
If you don't then no, you don't have a PTC nipple so nothing to worry about on your car.
