Parts required for ETM removal and re-install?

Do you have a failing Electronic Throttle Module? What steps to take if you do, plus the latest ETM news. Volvo 1999-2002 models only please.

Parts required for ETM removal and re-install?

Post by Warren561 »

Seriously thinking about jumping on the XeModeX ETM bandwagon for my 2000 S70 (104k mi) non-turbo with original white-label ETM. :D But, this is my only car so I need to thoroughly analyze what I need, to minimize downtime and rework.

1) Do I need to get any replacement gaskets or seals for this? From various pictures, it looks like I will need a gasket that seals the ETM to the intake manifold (anyone have a part number for this gasket?). Are there any other seals/gaskets that I will need?

2) I've got the original "white label" ETM. It appears that I will need to remove the starter. Apparently a wire harness is routed behind the starter. Any tricks involved here?

3) Does any software need to be "re-flashed" or upgraded after the ETM install. I believe that I have the "latest" software from Volvo (circa March 2008). After the XeModeX install, does one need to get new software? Reading through the various posts here, I am reading this as a big "NO."

4) Does anyone have a listing of Volvo Indy's that are familar with this XeModeX install? I am guessing no. It appears to be a DIY job.

Xemodex ships a new gasket with the upgraded ETM.

On my '99 S70 I needed to remove the back starter bracket, not the whole starter. I also removed the electric radiator fan to get better access.

Not if you get your original ETM upgraded. If you install a replacement ETM then probably "Yes."
