850 ACC Cabin Filter Clarification

Post by bluezero000 »

After some rest, I decide to work more on my 96 Volvo 850 GLT. 8) While I was looking for cabin filter online, I found the following description:
This filter is replaced by the later version filter #9171296. When using the later version filter, Filter Retainer number 9488525 will be needed.
Does anyone know what's the difference between the two versions of filters? How do I find out which version mine has? Thanks in advance.

To the best of my limited knowledge `98 S70 was the first to come with a cabin filter standard. My `96 850 GLT didn't have one until the dealer installed one when they replaced the A/C condensor. They used a Volvo OEM retrofit adapter.

I have been using $17 Mann filters from fcpgroton. They fit fine. This may not be the answer you were looking for, but maybe it will help a little.
