Passenger window regulator well and truly hosed up....

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Passenger window regulator well and truly hosed up....

Post by bajaman123 »

So I tore into my door today to see what the heck was causing my window to bind up. Turns out one of the arms on the regulator was slightly bent, and now...it is far, far worse.
I need to repair it if possible or replace it, but for the life of me I cannot see how it comes out.
Any ideas?

Well, while it may indeed be a junkyard item, I am still perplexed as to how it is attached to the door or as to how it comes out. There appear to be two TORX screws and a couple of rivets, NONE of which is accessible, being concealed behind the steel skin of the inner door panel.

I hate to say it but on that model I believe you have to drill out the rivets and with replacement item, use new rivets.

Hell...I had to drill out the rivets on the damned speaker just get it off so I could have a better look at things. In the end, the regulator is still totally obscured by the door skin.
I have worked on many, many vehicles in my 49 years but THIS one, this problem has me stumped. I mean, the damned thing HAD to be installed...someway, obviously. But I be danged if I can see how.....
I wonder if I could drill out the rivets holding the interior door handle and take it off, and see if I can get to the screws and rivets that hold the regulator? There HAS to be a factory approved method listed...SOMEWHERE!

Sorry for the brevity here, but I have a bad internet connection and already lost one post.

Per VADIS, move the window to halfway open. Pop the balljoints loose from the window by inserting a screwdriver up from below and prying til they separate. Remove the glass. (I would try sliding it up in its tracks and taping it to the door frame to keep it out of the way instead of removing it).

Drill out the four rivets and remove the regulator (see photo).

Hmmm...taking a second look at things, the pop-riveter I have won't get in there to re-rivet....

Any ideas on that?

I am looking at that....man, I don't know. I need to get a minimum of 3 inches deep to get to the regulator.

I found a Mac tool, part number RG300-ext but there is no picture of it. I sent them an e-mail asking for details on the reach. It says it is used for window regulators, amongst other things.
