questions regarding V70 R and s70 using IPD after market ECU

First questions
as i m still looking for a 1998-2000 V70 GLT or T , I have found few V70R ,are they ones to avoid or the contrary.

Second question
I came across an S70 using an IPD after market ECU and the seller claims it boots 50HP without damaging the engine is it true or false?

From what I read, this is MOSTLY true. The gains are about 33-50 HP. And a lot of people have their ECU reprogrammed by IPD with no problems.

And you will want to buy either an R or a T5 if you want any performance. The GLT is rather unimpressive compared to the other two.

The gains felt w/ the IPD ECU upgrade are impressive. I have this on my S70 T5. It is safe. In regards to the GLT, due to the smaller turbo, the upgrade will be a real seat of the pants feeling at the low end! It's a great upgrade and will make your GLT feel like a T5 (not so much increase on the high end rpm band) and still very safe!

Not a car to avoid but more "enthusiasts" drive these and upgrade them all the way up to and sometimes beyond 300hp. Personally, however I would avoid them as they are AWD and have many more items on them that are apt to break and they need more maintenance. Our cars are pretty high maintenance as it is anyway. If you have a choice, for the money go w/ a T5.

NO more than any other AWD car. Be aware of the AWD drive train problems. Angle gear, viscous coupling and drive shaft. These are all known issues with this car. When you look at one be sure to see if it still has the drive shaft in it. I know of buyers who have bought one, only to later find the drive shaft had been removed because of angle gear noise or other problem.
