740 wagon motor mount replacement

Post by e777 »

Before embarking on the replacement of my motor mounts, I was wondering if anybody could offer information regarding this ingenious engine lifting tool, that is the one made out of 2x6 boards (look for the hand drawing):

Has anybody successfully used it? Any potential hazards?

Thanks,

Eric

It is ingenious but I would suggest a couple of changes.

1. The hand drawing shows both pieces of timber as the same length. However, the photo shows the top piece is a lot shorter than the bottom. Before I saw the photo I had worked out roughly what weight two 5' lengths of 2" x 6" would take and it was more than adequate for a 740 engine. Shortening the top piece reduces the capability somewhat and, obviously, the shorter it is the less weight it will bear. In fact there is a slight bend in the bottom length in the photo.
2. Making the timber the same length would necessitate longer screws. I would suggest 6" x 12 gauge.
