Thinking of buying 99-00 c70 conv. Problems w/ turbos?

Post by aydadc »

Hi I'm new at the site. I am thinking of buying a convertible 99 2000 c70 convertible. Has anyone had any bad experiences with this car? Any major problems, or concerns I should have?
Any and all ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

Obiviously I don't own a C70, but in the interest that no query should go unanswered.....

If `00 C70 is like `00 V70 it has electronic throttle control (drive by wire)which is fine as long as it doesn't go kaflooey. If so, they cost about $1000 to replace. Besides a few other minor changes they are mechanically very similar to the the `98/`99 S/V70 which in our opinion is a pretty good car.

If the C70 turbo is intercooled (probably is) it will last longer. Good luck.

I have a 99 C70 convertible. I have read a lot here and elsewhere, and I don't think the turbo itself is any major problem. The most frequently mentioned problem with these cars is windows going out of adjustment. I've had no problems at all. The top mechanism is very complex, and if it has a problem you will need a second mortgage to pay for repairs, but owning a quirky car is part of the fun. If you want cost-free reliability, buy a Toyota or something and look just like eveybody else. ;-)

The C70 conv. is reliable, however the window regulators and the top can drive you crazy if they start to break, and they will. If you have the money to spend when it breaks, good. If not, this car isn't for you. You can spend a ton of money repairing the top and windows. If you really like the car and have a garage to keep it in, I suggest keeping the top and windows down all the time and only bring it out in good weather.

The turbo engine should not be as problem prone as the Non-turbo as it uses the Bosch Motronic ETC where the NA engine uses Denzo $$$ ETC
