S90 98 disconecting MAF
S90 98 disconecting MAF
I wiggled the conection to the MAF and the engine dies. At stop lights, backing up, it has a mind of its own that l'll Maf..er. So I disconected it. Im thinking the plug is bad {upper} cause when i wiggle it the engine dies/can this be harmful , cause it runs without dying. Yes, it runs a little ruffer and of course the check engine light is on, but still runs good. How do you replace the plug? Thanks
Do you mean the plug on the MAF itself, or the connector that plugs into it?
I'm pretty sure that the connector that plugs into it is part of the wiring harness, so it may not be the easiest thing to do, but I'm not sure of the specific way to dismantle it.
Have you tried spraying some non-conductive electrical contact cleaner into both connections? And then securing them back with dielectric grease?
As for running it without a MAF, your mileage is going to take a dive and I would imagine that you'll end up changing out engine wear items sooner (sparkplugs, etc.) but if it's only for a short period and you've no other choice, what else can you do?

Hey, who ever you are..thanks for the help. Yes its the harness itself and i have put the electrical grease in there, although i didnt spray it with anything. I think I would rather pay the extra rather than putting up with the stalling all the time. Ive replaced the maf from an after mkt one i bought on ebay and it seemed to work well for about 125 miles. Then going up hill the bucking started and the engine light came on. Just messing around with the connection the engine quit. So trying to find out if you can splice in to the harness with a new plug? Ahh Volvos!

There's no reason why you can't splice a plug in to the harness. If you cut the old plug off leaving as much cable as possible, solder the joints and cover with heat shrink it will be as good as new.

Update: After coming home from the wrecking yard and getting the plug I tried wiggling the the plug again just to make sure it cuts the motor out. Well it didnt cut out so I drove it for 10 miles or more and ran great so im stumped once again about the MAF.
