V40 evil check engine light

my 2001 V40 needs expensive repairs at every inspection to keep the check engine light off, I was told to post here before I drive it into the ocean. Please help

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

When the check engine light (CEL) comes on it indicates that diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) have been set. When these codes are read by either the dealer with his Volvo equipment or some other mechanic using an on-board diagnostic (OBD) code reader it gives some indication as to what is happening in your engine to cause the problems.

Is your CEL lit at this time? If so have you had the DTCs read? Again, if so by whom?

Try to steer clear of the dealers as their labour rates are diabolical. Autozone or Pepboys or some other similar outlet will read your codes free of charge. You can then post them here for more help. Unfortunately, until we have a diagnosis there is little we can do.

You can sell it in Florida. The only inspection here is VIN.
