V70 98 MAF

Post by HML »

Car threw MAF code. I found a 'Replacement Air Mass Meter' at the Auto Parts Warehouse for $96.82. Is the this the same thing as Mass Air Flow sensor? It costs quite a bit less?

OK I got it MAF aka AMS. Air Mass Meter=Mass Air Flow Sensor.

I would replace it with genuine Bosch, new one.Cheaper choice would be genuine Bosch again, but used one(from junk yard).
I guess you will be ok as long it's oem(if it is).

P.S.Did you try to clean the old Maf with "Maf cleaner"?It ceartanly was the cheapest sollution and works in 99% of cases.

Cleaning it sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't- mine was a catastrophic failure (no warning) and cleaning it did no good- I was in a hurry (my sole source of transportation at the time) so the part came from the dealer...about $200 after taxes.

^^^ mine did the same thing just last week. If your car still seems to be running perfectly fine - mine wouldn't run at all for more than 10 seconds - i'd try to take the thing off, spray some cleaner in it, and let it dry, clear the code, and see if it'll keep on going for you.

I am going to try to clean it and have the one I ordered stand by. What about the air temperature sensor? Is it in the MAF or should it be replaced as well?

There is a MAP (Manifold Pressure sensor)...also known as a barometric sensor...if that is what you're referring to by 'temperature sensor', and no, unless it too is throwing any codes, you should be fine.

I wasn't sure Thanks for your help. I was on a parts site and there was a note, that they would not guarantee the MAF unless u changed the 'temp sensor' at the same time. So I thought I'd ask.

The temp sensor is unrelated but often can cause strange idling and bucking as if it's the MAF, but you would get a code for it, so pull your trouble codes....if you're already in for a temp sensor, best to change your thermostat as preventative measure as well...you have to open the thermo housing anyway and will lose some coolant to do this.

I changed out the MAF and cleared the codes. I drove it about 150 miles, no problem. Our congress and businesses need to look at this site and see how effective Americans can be when they are willing to help each other. Thanks guys!
