When the car first starts, and periodically while driving I hear a noise which sounds like a deck of cards being shuffled -- not too loud, but loud enough to hear. Is this the automatic heating system doing some self-diagnostics, and/or adjusting some of the flaps? It is normal to have this type of sound?

It's probably a ABS system check -- totally normal.
