850GLT 2.5 10v running after switching off

Post by moomac4 »

Hi,

I'm having problem with my engine running on a few seconds after I have turned off, It happens when the engine is hot & not so much when it's cold.

I have only had this car a few weeks & have put new Volvo plugs in, new air filter, new Rota & distributor cap as I had a misfire problem but this was fixed after fitting the Rotor & dis cap. Took it to my local dealer & they said it showed a fault code 2-2-2 which is the ait temp thing in the air filter box but this was a week ago before the engine started running after switching off.

Any advice as to what I do now would be very helpful

Thanks

Sorry it should be Fault 1-2-2 (Air intake faulty or intermittent)

It sounds to me like pre-ignition to me.

What Fuel are you burning? I think Volvo recommends 92 octane. I run 89 octane in my 95 GLT NA 20v with no problems.

Also, a cause may be a

Thanks guys,

Do you think the fault 1-2-2 could cause this problem if the air intake senser is faulty or not working ?.

What product that goes in the fuel do you use to rid the carbon ??

Part of my 5K service that I perform is to put 1/2 can of Seafoam in the gas tank (full - 87 octane as per Volvo manual). Then with the engine warm and running I remove the vacume hose in front of the trottle body and using another hose I let the car suck the remaining Seafoam into the the engine. Once all of the Seafoam is in, I shut it down for 30 minutes. I then start the engine and get it back to temp - there will be huge amouts of white smoke coming out of the exhaust until all of the Seafoam passes through the system. This will clean carbon out of your intake/head and clean you injectors with the trated gas in the tank.
