Hello Everybody,
I have a Volvo 740 GL, 1990 model. It has some chromed metal parts fitted together with a rubber part at the bottom of the side windows. When I bought the car from the previous owner, I already noticed that there are some small rust spots on these chrome parts mainly at the contour of the rubber and the metal. I tried to protect the chrome as much as possible: I kept the car in garage, I used "Prevent" chrome cleaner in every 4 month. However, I can see that these rust parts are slowly but definitely growing.
What can I do? Is it possible to take these parts out from the window, detach the rubber and the metal, make polish and make chrome the metal somewhere? I mean, I am not sure, if I detach the rubber and the chrome, I can put together again, maybe you know, if it is possible. But if yes, is it possible to chrome those parts? I realized that they are not iron: cannot be magnetized. I don't know, what metal are they. Could it be a problem?
Thank you for the answers in advance.

If they are rusting they must have some iron in them and you should be able to take the parts to a plating shop and have them rechromed. I'd try driving the car to the closest plater and have him take a look at the bad areas. He should be able to tell you if he can do something for you.
