Code 0422 on 2000 Volvo XC V70

Post by cschoer »

My check engine light came on and I took it to a small mechanic (very knowledgeable on Volvo's and Audi's) and he told me that I have an 0422 Code (Emissions) possibly a C.Converter. The strange thing about this isr that the light came on while driving in town, I put some gas in it and a few 100 feet down the street the light when out. I drove a couple of hundred miles with the light off and again the light came back on. I think part of my problem is that I put the cheapest gas in it?? My mechanic told me to run this tank through and then put the highest grade back in it. He also said that he isn't sure why the light went off (usually they stay on) and that makes hime wonder about the gas octane. He told me to come back and he would re-set the engine light. I hope this isn't the CConverter ($1000) and is only the octane level of the gas?? Has anyone had any experience with this??
Thanks for your time.

Octane of fuel should have no part in this. If you have a non-turbo car with a Denso ECM, you probably need fuel injectors. If you have a turbo engine with a Bosch ECM, then you will likely need a cat. convt. Just so you know, the cat is covered until 70,000 miles under warranty and 80,000 miles in California and Massachusetts.
