I have a whole driveway full of Volvos and a Porsche and the all of the owner's manuals call for phosphate free coolant. In reality it is because of minerals in a lot of European tap water and I think any coolant will be fine with American tap water mixed in. Since it is in the manuals I just go to NAPA and buy Zerex G05 which is the only coolant that says phosphate free on the label.

Ok, got it. Phosphate free Zerex G0-5 (@ Napa)

Flush and Refill...

Now, in the 850 manual it says 7 litres - a little less than 2 gallons...is that all? I'm used to motors that take a lot more...

Thanks again...

wow, to think it's almost at a point I can drive it and trade it in...I'm not sure if I should be happpy :D or crying  !

Just wanted to post these "directions" for anyone else dealing with the heater hoses...Daisywagon (local mechanic) was great. I stopped by, and they pulled their head mechanic to explain how to fix the heater hose connection. He spent 35+ min's all told - trying to pull up Vadis type directions, pulling up paper copies, but none showed it good enough. So he called the local dealer and had them pull a copy of the directions, run across the street and fax it to him. Awesome shop. Anyone in Seattle can feel comfortable using them! Here is the schematic - sorry the fax grained it up a bit, cleaned it as much I could.

Even after getting all the pieces in the right order, inserting them first ( I was always trying to put them on the hose end, then insert the whole thing ), there is still a trickle leak there. Must of damaged the o-rings when the hose popped out of the connector. I guess it doesn't matter. I won' drive it a mile unless I'm heading to a dealer to get rid of it. Hope the drawing helps someone else.

Thanks for the schematic- even after looking in Vadis I never found that- very helpful as I'm sure mine is coming up (173K miles now- original heater core). http://www.eeuroparts.com/Main/DiagramP ... ed139e.gif #35-#39 shows those components but no explanation of how they go together.
