S80 1999 Turbo What to repair from a trouble code P1618
S80 1999 Turbo What to repair from a trouble code P1618
Ok I have been working on my friends S80 for almost a year now off and on. I had an alldata manual but of course it ran out... Could not find a paper one for it anywhere? Any tips there? It has this throttle surge going on with it lately So I changed the plugs (which were extremely worn) and it really made no difference in the surge. So I plugged my OBD2 reader in and came out with three codes, 2 for the trans solenoids A & B, And The P1618 Fault in Lead Between AW 50-52 and Motronic 4.3 (MIL Requested) What do I need to fix it, and what is it? Please help I have put a lot of time into this car for him and would like it to actually run great, where can I purchase the Trans parts and are they serviceable without removing it. Thanks

Has the ETM been replaced yet? If not, your friend probably needs to get on it right away because he's on the edge of the extended warranty, if not already past it. Here's some more info: http://www.etmsettlementdocuments.com/2008/faq.html#Q2

The AW 50-52 is the transmission and the Motronic 4.3 is the engine management system (computer).Bigdog73 wrote:Ok I have been working on my friends S80 for almost a year now off and on. You're welcome.
As far as the transmission is concerned, it might be that you have a bad or loose connector or a broken wire since you are getting a "Fault in Lead" code. I'd check that first.
If you want to change the solenoids, here's how to do it:

Yeah I hadn't gotten under the car yet to see what was going on but I will most definately do a detailed inspection before I turn a bolt. I appreciate knowing what I might be getting into before I get it up and under it. God bless and keep it up>

OK, then I don't believe yoou have the AW transmission. Maybe those Alldata codes aren't so good . . .?
I think you have the GM 4T65E transmission, which of course is completely different and you would need a different procedure to change the solenoids on it. I'll see if I can find it.

OK, I looked it up and it's very complicated. I won't post it unless you really want to change the solenoids out. Let me know.
Have you changed the ATF and filter yet? If not, check out my how-to post here: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... 11&t=20278
Also, there is a software upgrade recall on most, if not all of these transmissions. Have your friend call his local Volvo dealer with his VIN # and they can look it up. It's only supposed to take about 30 minutes and should be free since it's a recall.
