Wouldn't the changer adapter preclude using the changer? The kids and I use Ipods but when the wife and I go on a trip she likes to fill the changer with her CD's.

You are correct, sir. It's only capable of dealing with one or the other.

But, you could always rip the CD's onto the iPod...

Or swap'em, (unplug, replug, unplug, replug, yada, yada, yada...)
That would probably get old, but for special occaisions, it could be OK.

Resurrecting an old issue, I wanted to add this... my 816 will not eject a cassette even if the tape itself is broken.

I was fast forwarding an old cassette from the 80s and it broke, so I played around with it. It will play (nothing/static hiss), fast forward, rewind, everything. It won't eject until I press the eject button.

Another resurrection - but this topic seems most suitable for a problem I ran into. I tried soldering the audio cable as mentioned in other topics (viewtopic.php?f=1&t=14122&start=14 - last image in the thread).

While testing the connection I found out the tape deck is partially dead. Electro-motors are not running, cassette doesn't get sucked in, even though display on the HU switches from "Insert tape" to "Tape side A", and eventually back to "Insert tape" when I try to push the cassette into the deck, and I can select "Tape" as source (meaning it is detected by the main board).

I've obviously broken (or disconnected) something unintentionally, which would be fine with me (even better perhaps, since I'd have no tape hiss), but there is no sound going to the speakers. This is probably due to deck not recognizing any tape as inserted and "letting" the sound through.

I don't want to get the tape fixed (unless it's something I could do myself), but I'd still like to use its output for AUX-in. I think I have two options - either "convince" the deck that the tape is somehow inserted and it lets the signal through or solder the audio cable to a location which doesn't get cut off because of "no-tape situation".

Ive just had the same thing happen to me, My solder joints are perfect and the tape function is completely dead

It wont accept new tapes at all
