Right (passenger) side Control Arm replacement problem

Thanks, that would be nice- mine has 2 bolts so it's different- also not AWD which I believe makes things easier. Btw, the look you see if for adding a skid plate (at least it came in handy as a place to secure the plate) that I got from IPD...apparently the dealer also sells a "plate" of sorts which seems to me to be more like a "cage" but still protects the underbelly of the car- never came standard but they can be added.

I looked at mine today, and before doing all that raising work, I would first try to get a boxed end wrench in there with the "handle" above and to the right. The amount of turn might be limited but it looks like there is room to turn it 10 degrees or so.

I tackled that Control Arm replacement yesterday using the raise-the-engine method vegasjetskier described. It worked very well, and was not difficult at all. just a couple bolts to remove, and a floor jack under the engine to raise it an inch or so. There would be NO WAY to remove the old bolts or get proper torque on the new ones without doing it that way. They require a lot of torque, and you just can't do it without a good socket and breaker bar. Now, at last, everything is fine and dandy in my V70XC AWD front end.

Did mine last year and I used a offset box wrench. I believe it was a 17mm. It does help to just lift the engine a little.

I was in that area today replacing the front engine mount and replacing an O ring in the oil cooler lines, and I tried a wrench on the bolt you mentioned. I'm inclined to agree that raising the engine even a little could help a lot. I was able to get a boxed end wrench on it, and probably could loosen it using a hammer. However, there is no way to get a torque wrench on it w/o raising the engine. Here is a picture.
