On a '96 the problem is 99.9% the module itself crapping out. There are a number of re-builders that will rebuild the module for between $80.00 and $150.00 or, if you are handy with a soldering iron you can fix it yourself for free. Search the repair database for ABS and you should find my writeup on how I have fixed mine.
If you don't deal with it things will get worse and you will lose your speedometer.

so this has happened before? The rumbling and all when turning off the car? I have heard that the sensors go never that the module goes
