1983 240 Canadan version, B21A, Evap Canister question.

Hi there... the car has been running smother for a while, but even when I've don't lots of work, the gas mileage keeps the same (7,5km/liter). So one thing that i wonder is should I service my Evap System Canister? Reading some Chilton Manual I just got it says that any year model after 1979 shouldn't be serviced ever but then I go under the car and find the canister has this letter saying pry here to service or something like that... Also when I got the car, day zero after two and a half years parked, we tried to start it and it would it pour gas through all the intake hoses, even my air filter got soaked... so some of this gas could easily get into the canister, and I've read this could be bad for this part.

What do you guys think? I do have a spare one a hand... A friend is putting apart his 740 i think its a 1987-98 or so... Would this canister still work fine with my car? Same friend recently give me a complete exhaust system in good shape and now it finally sounds like a car.

Away for a few days and everybody asks questions!

Volvo recommend that the foam plastic filter in the base of the evap canister should be changed every 45,000 miles (72,000kms). Certainly petrol and evap canisters do not go together. The canister from a 1987/88 will fit your car as the part number is the same.
