940 1994 Making a squeaking sound Help!

Here's the deal, I've owned this Volvo for 4 years now and it has 168,000 miles on it and its still in great shape. A few months ago my service light came on and when the car is being driven about every 30 seconds or so the car makes a squeak real quick. It also does this every now and then when accelerating but the squeak turns into a shriek and won't quit until I let off the gas. I've take it to my mechanic and he check the belts and couldn't find anything wrong and as far as he could tell there would be no reason for the problem. Other than the shriek when accelerating this doesn't as far as I can tell affect how the car drives or rides. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions??

Does this also happen when the car is stationary with the engine revs about the same as when you are driving?

My mechanic also tried that and there was no success getting it to make the sound. The sound is only made when actually driving the car from best I can tell.
