S60 2.4T 2002 Stutter

Post by Juanel »

First off this is my first post but have been hugely helped by the forum content.

My car has a stutter when in idle, it is not always and doesn't matter if its on idle after a cold start or at a stop light. The car stutters but the Revs do not change only noticeable diference is the dashboard lights get dimmer for a fraction of a second and had once all the lights on the dashboard light up for also a fraction of a second as it almost died. I've changed the spark plugs (correct gap of 0.028), fuel filter, air filter, cleaned MAF.

I noticed an improvement when I changed the spark plugs and gapped them correctly since a mecanic who serviced it before me had a gap of 0.35 on average, but it continues to stutter on occasion.

Thanks,

Juan

Welcome to MVS.
I'm not sure I can offer you much without knowing more.
I guess a place to start is by asking which plugs you got...

I put in Volvo OEM plugs.

recently it stalled on me at a stop light and it took a longer than normal to turn on. and noticed I had 1/4 of a tank of gas, filled her up and it doesn't stutter that often at stop lights. I disconnected the gas line from the tank to the filter and the gas is really dirty ( filter has been in for 500 km practically new) . May this be the problem??? I'm also thinking of taking it to an electrical shop so the can check connections and the alternator so as to discard electrical problems.

I would start with a new fuel filter- If there is any way of draining the tank too to remove the junk, that might be helpful!

I was thinking the same of draining the tank. Have to find a shop to do it, because I believe this a messy and potentially dangerous job to do.
