2006 S60 T5 with "R" Air Filter stutter and die

Post by atomflyer »

Hello, Hope I am posting in the correct place. I am new to this whole thing. First Question, My 2006 S60 T5 has that round air filter in it. A Volvo repair shop told me I basically had an "R" except for the fancy blue paint on the engine. does this mean I have a 2.5 liter engine?

Next. I have a problem that has plagued me since last summer. when it gets real hot here (95 degrees and over) after running the car all day, in the late afternoon it will start to stutter and then die. The first time this happens, if I turn the key off for a minute and then back on, it will start right back up. after a couple of times dying it then takes about 5 to 10 minutes before it starts back up. The codes I'm getting are P0087 and P0089 here are some more strange things about this problem. Once winter came last year, the problem went away completely but came back this summer when it got hot. a gradual right hand turn like a freeway on ramp will usually make this problem happen. One more thing, my fuel gauge was working intermittently but rarely. after replacing the fuel filter that had NEVER been replaced, the fuel gauge started working, I also thought the stuttering was fixed but it came back after 2 weeks. I have replaced the FPS but I bought a used one on E-bay so perhaps I should buy a new one.

Question... since the fuel filter had NEVER been replaced, could the new one be somewhat clogged already due to junk in the tank? also why would changing the fuel filter make my gas gauge work again? I could really use some advice on what this problem is. IF I took it to the dealer, would they be able to tell me EXACTLY what the problem is? I did have it hooked up to a fancy code reader that checks every module on the car but didn't tell me much. I have had a Volvo repair shop check it out but they couldn't duplicate the problem, they hooked up a fuel pressure gauge but said it was fine.

Thank you so much.

Jay

Trust me it's your fuel pump regulator. Nothing else. Also do a tune up please.
