02 xc 70 slips in reverse

2002 xc70 chatters(slips) in reverse only when warm.You can also here a slight whine after the car has been driven awhile.110,000 miles.Thanks,Guy.

Welcome to MVS. Has your XC ever had the transmission fluid changed? If not, I would do that as soon as possible. If it is really black, I would just change out what is in the pan- open the drain plug and measure what comes out...you'll need to add the exact same amount (if level was correct to begin with) of either Volvo's special ATF or Mobile-3309 ATF or Toyota Type IV (same thing). Don't use Dexron or Mercon on yours. If the fluid is not dark brown or burnt looking then you might try a complete flush...there is a write up for this in our repair database (New Modified Transmission Flush- so look for it). See if this improves things.

Fluid was very clean.Drained and filled to see if it would help ,same results.Then flushed with 16 quarts of fluid and still no help.I was told that a drum inside the trans might have a crack in it that will be my next step if I dont here any different.
