2001 S60 Battery replaced..no power to center console

Post by PREGRE01 »

Replaced battery. Now no power to lower center console (blower fan switch, seat heater switches, lighting in shifter console, STC switch, sunroof switch overhead). Everything else seems OK. Upper console with CD player/Radio is fine. Checked power from distribution fuse panel beside battery in trunk..had continuity at each of the 4 terminals (Red wires). Looking in engine compt for additional fuses related to problem..can't find any.

All the regular blade fuses seem OK.

Try locking and unlocking your car with your key FOB several times...if that doesn't work, then with the key itself.... see if this resets things. Did you have your ignition key in position II when you hooked the new battery back up?

No. The key was in my pocket. Removed negative then positive. Installed new battery in reverse order..positive then neg.

Started car, checked voltage OK..then attempted to create demand on alternator to ck it charging normally..thats when i discovered no power to A/C blower..so cant turn on fan or anything in that section of console. Just tried sunroof..it works normally..maybe i didnt operate the switch correctly first time, but other stuff still dead. No lights for climate control buttons/speed control..seat heater switches etc.

Check fuse #4 in the side of the dash.

Oops, typo. It should say #14.

I have a 2002 XC70. My wife got an error message for a loose fuel filler cap, soon followed by a check engine light. The cap seemed fine so I tried to clear the check engine light by disconnecting the negative battery terminal. After reconnecting, the check engine light was off but the climate control panel was dead (no lights at all including the gear shift indicator). OBDII code of 1A55-Communication with the climate control module (CCM). Signal missing. Tried to reset by connecting battery cables for a few minutes but no luck. Took it to Volvo dealer to get ECC software reinstalled. Dealer said it didn't work and said I need a new CCM ($1000). They said they could get the blower motor to work by fiddling with the connector but said it would stop once he let go of connector. I'm worried that the dealer is just trying to sell me a $1000 repair. Does this sound like the CCM is shot? Hard to believe this could happen from just disconnecting battery terminal. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

not following the correct procedure when disconnecting/reconnecting the battery can cause havoc to the CCM electronics.

I was having the same problem with a dead climate control module after disconnecting the battery on my 2002 v70. i tried disconnecting the battery again, shorting the leads, and reconnecting with the key at position 2, to no avail. I managed to get my climate control back again when I jump started the car after the battery conveniently crapped out. then i got a new battery and when i installed it the ccm died. i jumped it again, with the new battery still hooked up, and the ccm came back. it's something try.
