Air conditioner controls

Post by leevining1 »

Hi Folks........summer is here and I want to maximize my air conditioning experience. The car is a '96 850 I bought 9 months ago. I think I have the controls figured out but would like some confirmation. There are 3 dial controls, looks like one for driver side temp and one for passenger side temp and a middle one to select the vents thru which the cool air is to flow. I have the 2 temp dials turned down to the 65. Then on the bottom right are two butterfly toggles, one is REC and the other is AC. I assume the REC is for recirculate? The AC is off toggled to the left with a little red lite that goes on, and toggled to the right the lite is off and the position is AUT. (is that for automatic?) The central dial also has an AUT selection and the sliding blower switch on the lower left also has an AUT. So for maximum chill how would I select/set the switches.........Thanks

In the all AUT positions the computer will try to figure everything out for you including where the air comes out and at what speed. I hate the AUT settings myself and I just set the temperature controls in the upper 60's and use the middle dashboard vent selection. After I am completely frozen I turn the fan down manually and I might even raise the temperature a bit.

Mine works well most of the time with everything on auto. I usually set it at 74 or 76. I rarely have to touch it, except recently I think the AC compressor clutch is slipping sometimes.
