Switch light bulbs - '93 850glt

Post by VolvoFreak »

I've got a '93 850glt and a few of the light bulbs on the switches are blown. Specifically, I'm talking about the following switches:

- Passenger seat heater
- Sunroof
- Defroster
- Headlight
- Rear fog light

Earlier this afternoon I pulled the defroster switch, opened it up and discovered that the little bulb is soldered to the power rails instead of socketed like in my old 240dl. I'd REALLY like to have these all light up - are all the switch bulbs like this? If so, can I actually buy the bulbs or do I need to replace the entire switch assembly? Thanks - this site rocks! :)

It has been my experience that I've had replace the whole switch, but I've been able to get used switch thru online used parts stores for the expensive ones. It's really up to you how much you want them to light up.

I've actually been kind of thinking of buying a small bag of ultra-bright white led's and replacing the blown incandescents with a resistor and an led. Would last a whole lot longer, easier to solder and cheaper than buying new switches.

You could do that if you can get the switches apart and you can confirm the voltage (I don't see why there would be a difference though). As long as you have a small enough soldering gun and you don't melt the plastic or ruin the switch you should be a go. Please let me know how you make out.

Thanks!

PS, I'm in Seneca Falls, Where in Central NY are you?
