2002 V70 Power Seat Problem

Post by Volvo Daddy »

The driver side power seat in my wife's 2002 V70 has gone crazy. Some days, it will move forward & backward, and some days, it will not move at all.

When the seat does move forward & backward, it will move backwards smoothly, but will go forward only in micro movements, then stop. You have to keep pushing the button forward again & again to get it to move to where you need it set.

I cleaned all the junk out from under the seat, and cleaned/lubricated the screw rails, but this didn't seem to make much difference.

So far, the seat height and back adjustments seem to be working ok. (Having said that, their failure is now probably imminent.)

I searched the forum for this problem, but mostly what I found had to do with power seats not moving at all or power seat back recline problems.

Would appreciate hearing from any other V70 owners who've had/repaired this problem, especially dealer cost of doing so.

Thanks.

Never had to repair this on the newer V70's at all but from what you're saying it sounds like an electrical connection more than any mechanical part- you might be able to take the seat adjustment center (or whatever it's called) apart and clean the contacts in it... Good luck and let us hear what you decided to do..

Appreciate the response. Any ideas/suggestions where I might find a description and/or pix of removing the seat switch and housing?

Excellent! Thanks for the info. Next weekend, I'll see if I can get it apart without destroying it or injuring myself.

Thanks again.
