This is a very common problem, my wife's 2001 S60 has had ALL the bulbs replaced by the dealer a few times, in an effort to not have her come back once a month whil the car was under warranty. Some of the blubs still only last 4 months and the message pops up again. I think it's related to the trunk being slammed closed to many times.
My 01 V70 has gone thru about 4 brake/parking blubs in the last year.

Update on my "fast blink" post earlier:

Had the left front blinker assembly pop off and commit freeway suicide last night.
The bulb and a little bit of the case stayed put, and the blinking was normal.

I disconnected the rest of the assembly so it wouldn't bang up the sheet metal, and it now blinks fast on left turns, along with the alarm popping up.

That blows the "high current" theory...

...heck of a way to test it, though...
