02 V70 XC died on higway - lost all electronics

Post by pharunk »

My daughter was driving today at about 70mph and car started dieing. By the time she got to the breakdown lane, it was dead. Absolutely no electronics available, not even hazard lights.

Var has about 110k mile on the motor, oil changed regularly at local gas station. Waiting for the diagnosis.

Anyone know what the issue may be? Any chance it is related to the electronic throttle issue?

Has the battery ever been changed? Good place to start looking. It is 7 years old.
Maybe a bad connection at the battery.

Sorry, I should have mentioned earlier, but I believe that I replaced the alternator and the battery two years ago (can't find the slips). Also, I stopped by the car earlier to pick things up, and when I put in the key, there is absolutely nothing there for power. no lights come on when the key is on, and can't move the power seat. etc/ looked under the hood and the serpentine belt is fine.

Did you try to jump start it or look at the battery connections?
That is the place to start at.

Case solved, it was the alternator.

I would have thought that an idiot light would come on, indicating lower or poor charge, or a message would be in the message center, or check engine light, or some other indication, before the car simply died on the highway.

Thanks for the responses!

Alt light should have come on, maybe she didn't notice it.
So the car was running on the battery until it died, then everything stopped working.
