1998 v70 xc tailgate latch
1998 v70 xc tailgate latch
The latch on my 98 v70 xc seems to be broken. The automatic opener has never worked and never will, but the manual opener has worked fine until now. The opener (inside and outside) are not popping the latch. Can this whole thing be replaced or is it a spring or some kind of clip that is not working? What ever suggestions you may have I would appreciate
I too have had this problem intermittently. Can't explain it & can't fix it!
It just seems to resolve itself! It's a bitch having to drag the groceries out a side door though!
I had thought it had something to do with the car twisting if it was parked on an angle or something, but my garage is flat concrete & it does it in there sometimes as well.
Last time it happened & resolved itself during the next drive, I lubed everything to the nines & haven't had problems since.
This doesn't help U one bit, but know that I share your pain brother!

I have not replied to this until now since I only have experience with 850 sedans but I have had to deal with two similar issues on the sedans. One was a bad lock mechanism which I solved with a $20.00 part off of eBay and the other was that the wires going into the trunk were all broken where it followed the hinge path. The latter problem seems to be more common on the wagons. Checking the wires is obviously cheaper than buying parts. Where my wires were broken it was not obvious as the wires had broken internally while leaving the insulation intact. A tug on the wires though confirmed that they were broken as they separated.
I just used some crimp on butt splices to fix the broken wires but on a wagon you may have less clearance and a solder splice with a heat shrink cover might be more appropriate.

It was not the actuator but the latch assembly itself. Got a new one for fifty bucks at a boneyard, works like a charm. Thanks for the help.(Boneyard is called Strandbergs in Centuria, Wis. Phone #7156462388. Tons of Volvo stuff)
