940 non-turbo 1994 causing me stress

Post by johnson »

Due to car troubles I can't figure out I found this forum and would like to thank any and all who can help me out. My wife's 940 (non-turbo) will start and run for anywhere from 15-30 minutes with no problems; after this period of time the car will idle down and die and will not restart. The car dies long after the car has warmed up and once it has died I have to let it cool down, say 20 to 30 minutes before it will restart. I would sincerely appreciate any insight anyone might have.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

There are several basic checks for this problem but have you a check engine light (CEL) showing? Your car is fitted with an On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) unit in the engine compartment from which you can read any fault codes stored in the system. If fault codes are stored it makes diagnosis easier.

The basic checks are:
Check fuel pressure is correct.
Check injectors are not leaking.
Check ignition and all sensor wires for proper connection.
Check spark plugs for fouling.
Check engine speed sensor.
Check throttle switch and connector.

If you need more help with any of this - post back.
