I am new to volvo's and am finding myself in a very bad situation. I have a 98' C70, the mechanical tensioner just failed me the other day and has left me without a car.
The car has the 2.3L turbo engine in it. Has anyone removed the head from one of these before? Can it be done without using the specialty tools listed in the alldata procedure? Please let me know any tips or tricks that may be out there, thanks.
Cylinder Head R&R, please help!!!

Hello,
I just got done with a complete engine rebuild and reinstall a couple hours ago. New main/rod bearings, rings, valve job, gaskets, seals, ect. top to bottom. My hands are still bleeding from all the abuse the last couple weeks. I have a 97 Volvo 850 and assume these engines are pretty similiar to each other.
I thought I was going to have some serious problems when it came to the head and especially the cams since I don't own all the special volvo tools. I ended up not needing any of them. I think it calls out for about 3 or 4 volvo specific tools.
I asked for some help on this site on how to align the cams for installation, but no response. I figured it out anyways.
There is so much info I could share but not sure what your looking for.
One thing I would not do again is to remove the cam sprockets from the cams, go ahead and mark them Intake and Exhaust but do not remove the sprockets. I followed the manual and they told me to remove them. What I didnt know this that the spockets can go on the cam three different ways. Thats where I almost had some problems. Volvo make a tool that will align the cams while your installing the top cover at a cost of $500.00.
Anyways, let me know if there is anything I can help you with.

Thanks for your reply. The main part I need help on right now is removing the valve cover or cam cover as volvo calls it. I have removed all the bolts holding it on, now I need a way to pull it evenly off of the studs it is pressed onto. Volvo calls for a special puller to do this. Any other methods you know of would greatly help.
Thanks
